“There is always a sadness about packing. I guess you wonder if where you’re going is as good as where you’ve been.”
I have neglected this blog a little recently, but life got rather busy and there has been a lot to process! I came across this the other day and I think it described very well what I felt while I was packing to move away. I have learnt that I am a very nostalgic and sentimental person (not entirely sure if its a good thing but ah well!) But nevertheless, I have moved and have had a few days to settle and while I still feel like I’m in holiday mode, I am feeling quite content.
“Guardi le stelle che tremano d’amore, e di speranza!”
“Watch the stars that tremble with love and with hope!”
Giacomo Puccini, Turandot, Nessun Dorma
I am off to travel around Italy tomorrow for 9 days and will even be seeing some opera while I am in Torino (Donizetti’s L’elisir D’amore) and I can’t wait!
“Paradise was always over there, a day’s sail away. But it’s a funny thing, escapism. You can go far and wide and you can keep moving on and on through places and years, but you never escape your own life. I, finally, knew where my life belonged. Home.”
J Maarten Troost, Getting Stoned with Savages
So I’m back from our fabulous holiday; it was the perfect escape from work and stress and real life but that is exactly what everyone returns to eventually: reality. Tobago is truly a little paradise. It is beautiful, the people are great and it generally has a really relaxed atmosphere. Time to get on with reality though – that is where life happens I suppose!
“When you walk on the beach at night, you can say things you can’t say in real life.”
I am off on a family holiday to Tobago! I’m hoping for beautiful beaches and total escapism from real life too!
“I learned that the richness of life is found in adventure… It develops self- reliance and independence. Life then teems with excitement.”
William Orville Douglas
Off on a little European trek with some friends for a week 🙂 hopefully it’ll be an exciting experience of independence and adventure.
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”
A few friends and I have made really exciting plans to go travelling around Europe at the end of the summer and we have planned to visit Paris, Munich, Venice and Nice. I CAN’T WAIT. Hopefully, life will cooperate with our plan-making!
