“Though sympathy alone can’t alter facts, it can help to make them more bearable.”

Bram Stoker, Dracula

Over the past few days I have found that I need sympathy in order to survive a cold, flu or other illness. My mother has tried the  ‘tough love’ approach, but it does not work with me. I will moan and moan and moan at you until I get a ‘there there’ at the very least. It is only then that I start to feel better and I’ll be the first to admit that it is a chore to be around me when I’m ill.
